    Headline Scariness: 1

Not very scary at all, actually.  It sounds playful and fun.  For shame, NYTimes, this will hardly get people running around in a panic.

    Actual Danger: 1

Pretty low.  If you bring MRSA home and get it on your pet, the pet can act as a petri dish and breed it, and then give it back to you.  However, even if you did this, there’s only a 2% chance you would actually get infected.

    Headline Scariness: 5

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the water – deadly, unkillable microbes attack!

    Actual Danger: 3

Looks like the tests were limited to a handful of beaches on the west coast. Staph bacteria was found at 9 out of 10 of the beaches tested, Staph aureus was found on 5 of those, and about half of the samples taken from those 5 beaches were antibiotics-resistant. MRSA is potentially fatal if you develop a bloodstream infection, though, so it’s still concerning to see hospital strains showing up on beaches.
